----- forwarded email ------------- Hi Sandy

I am Daniel Bara from Argentina.

I want to share with you somo trouble we have here to get coneccion to the Internet.

In my country, there are mainly 2 telephone companies (Telecom and Telefonica). They own two companies that give acceso to Internet. Telintar and Startel. The first is supposed to be the seller of big pipes. (Eg. 64 Kb costs 20.000 u$s per month). The second is supposed to be the reseller. It buy big pipes to Telintar and sells smallers.

When they bought the state telephone company, (ENTEL), they got a monopoly law that allow them to be the only communication company that could send and receive Data from abroad.

When Internet exploded, they where the only guys that leagally could give access to the Internet, and they charge for it whatever they what.

For example, I am and ISP, and I have to pay them 5.000 U$s per month for a line of 32 Kb. to Startel. Its obvious that my 32 Kb pipe is not that wide due to the main transfer price between both companies.

Argentine Internet societhy can`t develope as fast as it should due to the monopoly `problem.

My question is

Is there any way of Globally help us force them align their prices with the States. (Eg. 2.000 u$s/month T1 line) ?

Do you think this is the way I should proceed?

Do you know of any other country in our same situation ?

Many thanks Sandy for reading my lengthy mail. I hope I can get some help from The World to solve my little 20.000 u$s monthly problem .

Thanks Very much, Regards from Argentina

Daniel
