The Southern Africa Regional Telecommunications Restructuring (RTR) Program is a major sector development initiative of the Southern African Transport and Communications Commission (SATCC) and is funded by USAID.Working closely with the governments and telcos of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), the RTR Program provides management and technical education, assistance with the resolution of policy and regulatory issues and technical assistance in support of national sector restructuring programs. The RTR Program also seeks to increase linkages between the U.S. telecommunications community and that of Southern Africa through the dissemination of information on sector developments and emerging business opportunities in the region.
The RTR Program has just unveiled a new site on the WWW fully dedicated to telecommunications in Southern Africa. The site, "http://www.info.usaid.gov/rtr", contains a wide range of information, including:
summaries of the activities of the RTR Program;
profiles of the telecom sector in each SADC country, as well as political and economic background information;
statistics on network coverage, performance and telecommunications financials;
license and equipment tender notices;
a bulletin board discussion group;
articles and report on issues of importance to telecom sector development in Southern Africa;
extensive links to other telecom related sites on the web.
We hope you will bookmark this site and be a regular contributor to our discussion group. Please forward this message to any other telecom or development related lists of which you are a member.
