Sometimes one's apparent email address may change after signing on to a list. Then the listserv software will reject signoff requests that don't match the address the list has for you. To try to check on this, use the command: review devel-l sent to: mailto:listserv@american.edu to see what email address the list has for you. Possibly you can reconfigure your email software to make your signoff request seem to come from that address. One person found that he needed to match the capital and lowercase letters that the listserv had for his address. Surprising!
If nothing else works, then ask the listowner (a unpaid, unappreciated volunteer doing something else for VITA) to delete your address from the list.
Good luck, Tom Hodges
