                Workshops on the World Bank's RMSM-X Model
             and the Millennium Institute's Threshold 21 Model

Invitation

You are cordially invited to attend two workshops, one on the World Bank s principal model, RMSM-X, the Revised Mininum Standard Model-Extended, and the other on a new, user-friendly, country-level sustainable development model from the Millennium Institute, THRESHOLD 21. The workshops will be held in Washington, D.C.

The RMSM-X workshop is offered on either of two dates:

Tuesday, July 15, 1997, or Thursday, August 14, 1997.

The RMSM-X workshop will: (1) review the history, assumptions, and uses of The World Bank's Revised Minimum Standard Model-Extended (RMSM-X) in the Bank s decision-making processes and government relations, and (2) present RMSM-Quick, the Millennium Institute's user-friendly version of the Bank's model. Both workshops will be conducted by Dr. Weishuang Qu, Director of Analysis, Millennium Institute.

The THRESHOLD 21 workshop, to be held on Tuesday, September 16, 1997, will present THRESHOLD 21, the Millennium Institute's sustainable development model. THRESHOLD 21 is based on RMSM-X, but includes additional factors, such as: population, goods production, agriculture, energy, social services, environment, military, education, health care, food and nutrition, water, forest, land, international trade, technology, greenhouse gas emissions, and employment.

Bank economists, embassy economic staff, managers of international banks and insurance firms, and staff of development-related NGOs will benefit from the workshops by:

* Gaining new understanding of the role of RMSM-X in the World Bank's decision-making processes and government relations;

* Acquiring skills to negotiate win-win agreements between the Bank and governments;

* Assessing long-term national investment and insurance opportunities and risks; and

* Obtaining compiled versions of RMSM Quick and THRESHOLD 21, with documentation.

The Millennium Institute, a nonprofit organization, has studied the RMSM-X model in depth and developed RMSM-Quick and THRESHOLD 21 in Vensim(r), a state-of-the-art dynamic modeling language.
