The International Institute for Sustainable Development is looking for a Young Professional Intern to be placed for 6 months in the following position:
Fundaction Redes y Desarrollo (FUNREDES) Web Designer - 6 Month Placement
MISSION: FUNREDES mission is to promote and facilitate the use of Newer Information and Communication Technologies (NICT) in developing countries, and especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, together with international organizations, NGO's, governments, public and private interested institutions, etc., with the purpose of contributing to the regional development and integration.
OBJECTIVES: ** To establish dissemination strategies for the NICT (networks, added-value networks, electronic libraries, interactive multimedia...), which: * respect the socio-cultural environments as well as the individual and collective freedom; * promotes the participation of the people, nations and interested regions in their development; * take into consideration the globalization of the information exchange patterns.
DUTIES: - The intern will review existing websites and associated documented plans for enhancement and offer a documented set of comments and suggestions for improvements.
- The intern will participate actively in the regional electronic conferences set up for sensitization to not for profit organizations in the Caribbean.
- The Intern, under the mandate of the Project Manager, will coordinate a team of Dominican Web designers to meet the specifications of the targeted products. Design aspects requiring more technical skills (Java script, CGI Bin, graphics, etc.) will be under the Interns direct responsibility while constant attention will be maintained in transferring the Intern know-how to the local counterparts.
- The project goes beyond the scope of the Host organization since it evolves other similar NGOs of the Caribbean. The Intern will play a role of educator and support towards these related organizations remotely within an electronic conference and locally for the regional meetings which is forecasted.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience in designing webpages - Experience in Java script, CGI bin, graphics, etc - Bilingual French and English, and or fluent in Spanish - Knowledge of environment and development issues - Please send us the URL of any work that you have done
