Dear colleagues--The Centre for Sustainable Design (www.cfsd.org.uk) are
organising an ad hoc afternoon workshop at 2.30 on July 22nd 1998 on
'Systems Design and Industrial Ecology' with Professor George Chang of the
Zero Emissions Research Initiative (ZERI) from UN University from Tokyo,
Japan. Professor Chan is an expert praactioner of industrial ecology,
having developed and established projects in Fiji, Africa and China using
the concept of Integrated Biological Systems (IBS). Examples will be given
of the application of concept to breweries e.g. using the organic waste
from breweries as food for fish in adjacent fish farms, and the excess
carbon dioxide from the brewery being used to grow fruit and vegetables in
adjacent greenhouses. IBS is a model process for ecological sustainability,
particularly in view of the potential for increasing food production yields
in the South. The event is free but please advise asap, if you would like
to attend.
