The University of Iowa Center for International Finance and Development
invites you to read several new postings on its Website.
There are two new Perspectives postings, which feature opinion pieces
relating to the E-Book's themes. This month we are featuring two
articles, which provide differing viewpoints on how the Internet
affects the lives of citizens around the world. Laurent Jesover, an
ATTAC activist, believes the Internet is an effective tool to educate
citizens and generate discussion on issues of globalization. In
contrast, Kyle Wegner, a Peace Corps volunteer in Belize, points out
that the Internet's potential is very limited in developing nations.
Another new posting is the E-Book News. This edition of the E-Book News
focuses on the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Asia. The articles cover a variety
of topics including causation, groups at high risk, responses, and
challenges to prevention measures. They also consider economic, social,
and political factors that may contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS in
Asia.
For those of you unfamiliar with the E-Book, it is a major feature of
the University of Iowa Center for International Finance and
Development's website. It is an electronic handbook that will help you
gain a basic understanding of the increasingly complex world of
international finance and development. The Center's website also
provides many other features that help citizens understand various
aspects of international finance and development. Some of the features
include:
· the Monitor, which provides readers with concise reports and
analysis of key events regarding international finance and development
· a Quiz to test your knowledge of international finance and
development
· Links to important articles, documents and other organizations, which
relate to international finance and development.
· a Poll, which allows you to voice your opinion on issues regarding
international finance and development. The current poll addresses debt
relief.
We encourage you to visit the University of Iowa Center for
International Finance and Development to take advantage of its many
helpful features at http://www.uiowa.edu/ifdebook
