Dear Devel-L members:

I am trying to get information about research that has been done with the following plant: The miraculous nut is a fruit originated from India its scientific name is: Syncephalum dulichium (de Candolle, Agustin 1778-1841) this nut contains two main alcaloids: dulcifina & sincepalina once in your mouth the alcaloids will be tasteless until they are combined with acids like citric acid (a lime for example) then the alcaloids will react with the acids to produce a sweet sensation or flavor. Therefore the lime will taste sweet.

I would like to find out about recent research done with this plant. Books only mention slightly about research done in the U.S. with interest of use for diabetics. My interest is focus on the posibilities of this alcaloids to be used as non caloric sweeteners.

If anyone could help me in getting more information about names of companies and research centers whose work is in this matters please let me know and answer to my e mail address:
