Dear Friends,
With the collaboration of some Netters, the questionnaire about
community banking and the letter from the Instituto Candango de
Solidariedade - an NGO whose chair is Gladys Buarque, Brasilia
First Lady, are ready to be mailed to the international agencies
that would like to participate in some aspect of the integrated
development program we are having the opportunity to develop here,
in the Brazilian capital.
Soon, in a next enews, we will post back to the list the responses
we get from all those institutions, from all over the world. If we
organize a broad international coalition around our project in Brasilia,
(we could call it the Brazilian Defy), sharing at least a common and
sympathetic witness along with a mutual, informed and creative
exchanging of ideas - we could start, at first in Brasilia, later everywhere
- a process to help to change the world. The actual and ultimate goal
we are all working for.
Soon or later everyone working with international development will
perceive that if we (all together) succeed to change Brazil (to make
it really feasible for the next centuries, we also will be able to change
any other country. Think about our history, environment and culture.
Fun and fear. Beauty and tragedy. Sun and violence. Think about the
mix of the races that has happened in Brazil maybe centuries before
in the other countries (where it is still just starting). Think about the
huge territory, the menaced endless biodiversity, the violence against
the poor and weak, the oceans of fresh water. The greatest nation of
slaves in the modern times (ten times more slaves than in the USA).
If we succeed here (to organize the communities and nature for the
genuine sustainable development), we could (and would) anywhere.
Even in the US. Even in Zaire, Bosnia, Russia, Mexico or Japan.
Therefore Brasilia - Brazilian capital, right in the center of
South America - is so important in the global scene and deserves all
this combined support that the Partners are providing - from DC and
abroad, from the professional and the volunteer brothers and sisters
as well. Lately, I am always very proud of having met you, discovered
this list and found our very partners in this sunny journey: to help to
improve the future of our descendants.
Tonight we had a meeting to discuss some details about the BBS
we are organizing to provide information to the community associations
and youth popular leaders. We will call it CidadaNet (CitizenNet). We
were discussing the areas of information we should make available
in our Net. Do you have any suggestion? We had some ideas, but
this msg. is already too long. Let's wait for your suggestions.
Thanks in advance. Joaquim and Fernando.
