----------------- Original Message ------------------- With apologies to all if this message breaks protocol, I want to ask for your help. I'm a relative newcomer to Internet and an absolute newcomer to AUDIN-L. A hitchiker on the Infobahn, as it were. I'm also the Manager of the Peace Corps Recruiting Office in San Francisco and one of 4 people authorized to explore the new territory represented by LISTSERVs like this one.
I seek to spread the word about Peace Corps Volunteer assignments to groups of folks like you who either could be Volunteers yourselves or could serve as references to others who might be interested.
While the demand for Volunteers is soaring - we'll assign more than 4,000 overseas next year - we are preparing to reduce both recruiting staff and dollars. The only feasible solution is to enlist the help of folks like you and media like this to get the word out.
We now have requests for 1800 Volunteers for assignments which start in April, May and June, 1996. Too early for most of the crop of June 1996 graduates. So, we're beginning now to try and get to people who will graduate in December 1995 or in June 1995 and are still available then, as well as people for whom academia is not a recent experience.
If you are one of the above, or if you know someone who is, please let them know we have an interesting, valuable assignment for them in one of 94 countries around the world - China, former Soviet Union, central and eastern Europe, Latin America, Africa, Pacific.
The 1800 assignments cluster in 7 broad areas: Education - 750 Business - 350 Environment/Forestry - 150 Food Production - 150 Health - 150 Community Service - 130 Urban Plg/Const/Eng/Skilled Trades 120
All details are available without hassle or follow-up from your local recruiting office 1 (800) 424-8580, press 1 at the prompt. If you want to talk with me about it, I'd be pleased to.
Thanks for listening and for any help you can provide. If this is inappropriate, it will not be repeated. If it is acceptable and more information is desired, just let me know.
Regards. Joe Therrien Manager, San Francisco Office mailto:<jtherrien@peacecorps.gov>
