SASCA CONFERENCE: SOUTHERN AFRICA, ANTHROPOLOGY AND THE 21ST CENTURY
You are herewith cordially invited to the 22nd Annual Congress of the South African Society of Cultural Anthropologists. The congress will be held from 10-11 September 1998 at Unisa Park, Irene (Pretoria) (see attached map).
This year the conference will address six themes which cover a wide field so that the conference offers eveybody an opportunity to contribute (see attached programme). The topics which appear in brackets below each of the themes, should thus be seen as mere guidelines and not as a demarcation of a specific session theme. You are invited to deliver a paper (20 minutes) on a subject which could resort under one of the session themes.
The closing date for the submission of titles is 15 July 1998. Papers should be submitted no later than 30 August 1998. One hard copy should be submitted to the above address in order for it to be duplicated for the conference. All papers will be considered for publication in the South African Journal of Ethnology.
Papers are welcomed in both Afrikaans or English. Because academics and other interested persons from overseas are expected to attend, participants should seriously consider presenting their papers in English.
The conference fees are set out in the attached programme. Note that provision is made for persons who wish to attend only particular sessions. Students should also note that they will receive 50% discount on all costs. Conference participants should note that the braai on the evening of 10 September 1998 is free of charge.
