The International Institute for Sustainable Development is looking for Young Professional Interns to be placed for 6 months in the following positions:
** The Chamber of Mines ** Dominican Republic
The Intern will be working on an electronically accessible source of information on the institutions in the Dominican Republic that promote sustainable development in mining applications; provide access to those institutions to information from different sources on the issues. This would include website construction for a series of organizations such as the Chamber, the Direccion general de mineria and some serious ecological groups, training of their members in the use of Internet, developing a directory of other relevant websites. The result: a better informed sector more capable of implementing sustainable development policies and criteria.
** Qualifications **
- Strong Internet and website development skills - Knowledge or interest in sustainable development and mining issues - Experience with training in the use of Internet - Spanish required

** Business Council for Sustainable Development ** Gulf of Mexico, Texas
BCSD-GM conducts an ongoing outreach effort to promoting sustainable development. This summer, these efforts will focus on fulfilling three goals: expanding our website; publishing our summer newsletter; and marketing our organization to foundations potential corporate members.
The intern will have opportunities to take on the following responsibilities:
- writing articles/briefs for BCSD-GM website and newsletter (in English & Spanish) - designing elements of the BCSD-GM website - researching foundations and potential corporate members - contributing to BCSD-GM's marketing strategy - preparing for BCSD-GM summer members' meeting
** Qualifications **
Excellent Writing and Researching Skills web design skills Spanish an asset Background knowledge/interest in sustainable development & public/private sector partnerships
Bonus: Database design/maintenance skills Newsletter/graphics design skills
Start Date: August
** World Business Council for Sustainable Development ** Geneva, Switzerland
The WBCSD would give the best opportunity to a journalism degree holder who has a strong understanding of business and environmental issues.
** Written Communications ** - general tasks linked to communications (gathering information, editing and writing pieces) for internal and external releases/publications - adapt selected WBCSD material to the web - edit/write speeches for our president - help produce interim products for the WGs - develop a series on Business and SD from different business perspectives
** Press ** Build contacts with the North American press to help strengthen the exposure of the WBCSD:
- develop contacts with the press departments of member companies to gather updated press information from their country - seek opportunities to promote/disseminate WBCSD products within members' PR departments - design and create a folder to be given out to PR Departments of Member Companies for their use. This would entail: - writing to all LDs explaining the project - researching what would be needed by the PR Departments by talking to the people - developing criteria for information to be included - developing a plan of implementation and developing a design - presenting the finished folder to LDs and press departments
** Skills **
- experience and knowledge of the press, preferably environmental media - understanding of how business functions - proven writing skills - web-writing skills - good verbal communications - sound synthesis spirit for complex issues - team spirit - to be polyvalent
Start Date: August/September
