I can't offer any help with your search for info in economic development grad programs, but...
The FAQ for sci.econ.research is titled "RESOURCES FOR ECONOMISTS ON THE INTERNET". It should be of interest to anyone looking for economic data and many types of related information. The most recent version is 8.02 (Last-modified 1994/11/29). An update is currently in progress and should appear on the net in about a month in s.e.r and on news.answers and sci.answers.
As for availability, quoting from the FAQ:
This document, which is updated every three months or so, and its successors, can be found in several places. They include, via ftp, at ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet/sci.econ.research/econ-resources-faq. Via gopher, it can be found at the Economics Gopher at Sam Houston State University and at the Economics Working Paper Archive at Washington University at St. Louis (at this site, one can also read the document by sections and it can be searched). Both these gophers are described below. Via email, it can be obtained by writing SENDME ECONOMICS.INTERNET-RESOURCES in the body of a mail message sent to mailto:FILESERV@SHSU.edu or by writing to econ-wp@econwpa.wustl.edu with GET ECON.FAQ in the subject line. Hypertext (html) versions can be found at: http://econwpa.wustl.edu/EconFAQ/EconFAQ.html (Missouri) http://www.helsinki.fi/~lsaarine/EconFAQ/EconFAQ.html (Finland) http://gopher.econ.lsa.umich.edu/EconFAQ/EconFAQ.html (Michigan) http://riskweb.bus.utexas.edu/EconFAQ/EconFAQ.html (Texas) and on a number of other web sites that deal with economics.
If you are unable to find or get it, I'd be happy to send it out via email to you, although it is a large ( 120kb) document. Let me know.
Karl
