I recently received this message from Charles Musisi of the Makerere
University Institute of Computer Science in Kampala, Uganda. Here at the
University of Florida we have been working with Mr. Musisi to provide him
with modems to help with the expansion of the e-mail service he developed
there. Our work has been part of a joint project of UF's Center for African
Studies and International Development and Research Initiatives (IDRI), a NGO
based here at UF. IDRI has tax exempt status with the IRS so any donations
are tax deductible. If you would like more information on IDRI or Mr.
Musisi's work in Uganda please do not hesitate to contact me.

-----------Message from Charles Musisi--------------------

Dear Friends,

Re: Appeal for disused PC equipment to Mukla

Mukla is Makerere University's e-mail service based here at the Institute of Computer Science. We primarily serve the university but also groups outside the university, these mainly being Indigenous NonGovernmental Organisations(NGOs) in the areas of human rights, environment, climate, and community development.

While the use of e-mail has now spread widely, ready availability of basic equipment like modems remains an impendment to its further growth.

This is an appeal to our friends at University of Florida and beyond for donation of disused modems and other communication peripherals like cables.

These will primarily be used to expand the network here on campus and also to a selection of needy groups who are keen to log into the Global Information system.

Thanking you in advance,

yours sincerely
