Could anyone who has any information on DSM programmes for domestic households please share it with me ?I work for Eskom, which is South Africa's electricity utility and the 4th biggest in the world. Currently, an estimated 4 million dwellings are not electrified in SA. Eskom has committed itself, in line with the government's Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) to electrifying 300 000 houses a year. Now this, coupled with the government's drive to build about 150 000 houses per annum could put a severe strain on Eskom's electricity generating capacity. In fact, current forecasts predict that the excess capacity that Eskom has will all be utilised by 2003.
It has therefore become imperative that DSM options particularly around energy conservation and efficient use be developed.
