The Struggle for Modernization and Democratization: THE CASE OF THE FORMER SOVIET CENTRAL ASIAN REPUBLICS

April 11-13, 1996 University of Minnesota Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

The newly independent states of Central Asia are experiencing problems of modernization common to many developing agricultural countries, but they also face the added pressures of liberalization associated with post-Soviet regimes. This conference is designed to increase knowledge about the region for those in business, academia, education, economic development, government, and for anyone interested in the area.

Uzbek ambassador to the U.S. and the U.N., F. G. Teshabaev, will open the conference.

Chingiz Aitmatov will deliver the keynote address, National Problems in the Development of Literature and Art in the Post-Totalitarian Epoch.
