Colleagues:Please excuse us if you seen this; we appreciate your attention.
The Center for Regenerative Studies of California State Polytechnic University is hosting a 3-week intensive summer course titled "Aquaculture Ecosystems: An International Training Course and Workshop". The course will be held at the CRS, a new research and education facility opened in 1994, and funded by the Kellogg Foundation to explore sustainable technologies of importance to the 21st century. The course will take a hands-on, practical approach to the development and management of integrated aquaculture-agriculture ecosystems using ponds and tanks receiving reclaimed water from a densely-populated urban area. Special emphasis will be given to international approaches and successes and failures in various socio-economic, political, and biotechnological environments worldwide. Guest lecturers from Africa, Asia, the World Bank, and the expanding Southern California aquaculture industry are planned. The course will include workshop discussions and think-tank environments with participants, and will produce reports which hopefully will be published in cal Poly's Journal of Integrative Studies. The comprehensive fee for the course is $2,500, which includes graduate tuition, full room and board at double occupancy, course book and reader, photocopying, three field trips to freshwater and marine aquaculture sites in So California, and field lunches. The course is limited to 30 participants only. As of March 10, we have received 15 applications, and letters of intent from 5 more. Further details and applications can be obtained from:
