THE SUMMIT: The Microcredit Summit, February 2-4, 1997, is the first step in a decade-long campaign seeking to ensure that 100 million of the world's poorest families - especially the women of those families - are receiving credit for self-employment by the year 2005.THE PREPARATORY MEETING: The purpose of the September 20 21, 1996 Preparatory Meeting II is to provide the Microcredit Summit Organizing Committee, in face to face discussions, with information and insights to help them develop the final draft of the Summit Declaration and Plan of Action.
Friday evening, September 20th: Opening plenary session
Saturday, September 21st: Plenary sessions and a series of breakouts will address different aspects of the Summit Declaration and Plan of Action, including:
- The business plan for building the institutional capacity of microcredit in industrialized countries chaired by Connie Evans of the Women's Self- Employment Project
- The business plan for building the institutional capacity of microcredit in developing countries chaired by Muhammad Yunus of Grameen Bank and John Hatch of FINCA
- Commercial finance and microcredit - chaired by Michael Chu of ACCION and Kathy Waldron of Citibank.
- Building full financial services for the poor - chaired by Ela Bhatt of SEWA and Nancy Barry of Women's World Banking.
Saturdav evening, September 21st: Meetings of the following: Council of UN Agencies; Council of Donor Agencies; Council of International Financial Institutions; Council of Practitioners; and Council of Banks and Commercial Finance Institutions
