Dear friends,I am sorry about the delay to answer you, and I am sorry again because I don=B4t have objective answers to your questions. And I need to know better what you already know, to avoid telling you what you already know...
Objectively, tell me: do you have contact with any Indianist NGO in Brazil? The main are: CIMI - Centro Indigena Missionario (related to the Catholic Church, very active); Centro de Articulacao dos Povos Indigenas (this one is more directly related to the Indians, who are becoming more organized). I can look for their addresses, if you don=B4t have them...
The governmental agency dealing with the Indian question is FUNAI - Fundacao Nacional do Indio. I can also give you their address. Today morning I went to the bookstore of the Universidade de Brasilia and I saw some interesting books on Brazilian Indians. But you will need to visit our site "Reading Portuguese - a course on the Web" to become able to read them... (http://webwrite.com/partners.bsb-dc/porcours.htm
About the Afro American, I also could tell you a lot of things, if you want to hear them... There are also some NGOs related to their questions, but they are less in the media than the Indian issues.=20
As I told you, there is a new law that allowed the white farmers and the states' government to rediscuss the limits of the Indian reserves. Until April 30 (I am not sure about the date, but is in April), the=20 Justice will accept petitions arguing the reserves limits. The Indians and their NGOs are denouncing the menace this law represents, and they got a lot of international support for their fight. The hope is that the Justice will not change the limits and the Indians' rights too much...
I could fax you two or three articles in the newspapers on this issue... If you want, if you need...=20
