Dear friends,Today (Monday) I had an article published at the main Brasilia;'s newspaper, about microcredit and the last February Summit. It was very didactic, explaining what the summit was all about, its objectives, its Declaration and Plan of Action, its sponsors, its attendants etc... At the same day, two people, after reading the article, have looked for me, at the Central Bank: someone from the World Bank and another from a very huge governmental Brazilian bank. The person from WB didn't find me (I hope tomorrow we will find each other) and I will meet, next Friday morning, the national manager of the governmental bank, to talk about its coming soon microcredit program.
Since January I joined the Credit Committee of the Brasilia (local) government bank, and every Wednesday morning I meet the three other members of this committee (representatives of the Finance Secretary, Labor Secretary and the Banco de Brasilia) to evaluate about 60 microloan applications, every week. I am preparing a Web page about the criteria, the loan ranges, the interests, the clientele, so you may compare our methodology and results with others... To be true, the methodology is not mine. My methodology would be different, closer to Grameen's 16 Decisions... (courage, discipline, union, hard work etc...)
Recently, I have asked you to inform me if you had met any Brazilian at the Summit, last February. Nobody has answered... Should I understand that none Brazilian has participated noticeably? I think this is very likely to be true. I know that some Brazilians have attended the Summit, but I can imagine very well that none was very noticeable... Here in Brasilia, my article published today was the only repercussion of this important event... Again, if any of you can remember a Brazilian participant, tell me about he/she, because I need to know who else is involved in microcredit here. Thanks, J.
