A VERY SPECIAL NNOUNCEMENT
We are glad to inform that VITA special CD-ROM is now available. This CD-ROM represents more than 35 years of providing technical assistance to help people in Asia, Africa, and Latin America improve the quality of their lives~VITA~s mission. The CD-ROM contains over 150 of VITA~s best publications on subjects ranging from agriculture to water supply. These documents have been compiled into one large document searchable and viewable using TextWareTM software installed on the CD. This electronic ~cardfile~ has been created through optical scanning and includes both text and illustrations contained in each publication. Highlighted words and phrases are ~linked~ to other portions of the text or to figures and photographs scanned from the original publications. Placing the cursor on and selecting one of these highlighted words will cause the program to display the text or illustration to which it is linked.
System requirements (in addition to CD-ROM drive): DOS- DOS3.3 or later, 512K conventional RAM, 2M Extended Memory, 1.2M Hard Drive Space; WindowsTM - Windows 3.1 or later, 2-8M RAM, 1.5 Hard Drive Space; MacintoshTM - System 7.x, 4.5M RAM, 1M Hard Drive Space.
This product is designed to operate on a variety of computer platforms; specific ~Quickstart~ instructions for each are provided. Considerations of licensing, cost, speed of access to text and images even with slow processors, as well as the requirement for cross-platform use resulted in the selection of TextWareTM indexing and retrieval software for this application. The above considerations result in tradeoffs in some features, and knowledge of all TextWareTM functionality is not required to use the CD-ROM successfully. The ~User Manual~ provides greater detail for the serious TextWareTM investigator. A listing of other useful keyboard functions is provided.
Cost of this special VITA CD-ROM is $95.00 only. Postage and handling to an address in the USA is $5.00. Shipping and handling to an address overseas by air mail is $8.00 and $5.00 by surface mail. Virginia residents should add 4.5% sales tax. All prices are subject to change without notice.
Payment must accompany all orders. VITA accepts personal checks payable to VITA Publications drawn on a bank in the U.S., bank drafts, international money orders, postal money orders payable in U.S. dollars only. COD or credit card orders are not accepted. Please do not send cash through the mail.
