Dear Friends,

Maybe you will enjoy reading these messages and the planning that is behind them. Maybe you could also participate, because "something new must happen", when we talk about sustainable development and future, culture and nature. And if internet is to be important in this process, I am dedicating many hours daily to verify this possibility and bring its international power to my reality - my person, my community, my country and your countries.

First I have sent a message about Theory x Money to the University of Colorado forum that discusses "sustainable development" ( http://csf.colorado.edu/sustainable-economics/ ). I got some interesting messages ( http://www.partners-bsbdc.org/messages.htm ) back and then I sent another about "Something New Must Happen" (here down), that brought me back two very interesting messages (also below).

I could become satisfied with these two important messages - and the possibilities they suggest - but I feel that I must keep looking for more people concerned, more doors opening, new contacts making, to guarantee that this time "something new will actually happen", big enough to make Brazil at long last awake and recover itself, allowing the world's population regain hope and trust about their-our future. ______________________________________________________

Dear Friends,

I am sorry for waiting for the latest moment to send this message. I would like to tell you that I and my friends, here in Brasilia, would like to collaborate in this needed and desired paradigm transformation, we were here discussing about how to promote.

I am sure that Brazil could perform an important role in this world transformation. Brazil is the huggest social mess you may imagine, and if we succeed here - in attaining the sustainable development we are striving for - this would demonstrate that the entire Earth could also be viable for a better future.

And how could we promote some emblematic changes in Brazil - an emblematic country? Concentrating (in a project or in a networking of projects) the efforts and resources that today are lost, because they are applied in an inconsistent way, not strategically planned, not articulated, and not properly informed by the available technology, knowledge and wisdom.

For instance: I have read last week that World Bank will apply US$ 1 billion to help the development of the rural settlements in Brazil, recently created by the Brazilian Agrarian Reform (incipient) program (The Brazilian government will provide the same amount as counterpart).

This - I can tell you - is potentially the most important current project to demonstrate that sustainable development is possible. It has scale, and deals with the fundamental issues for the future (demographic distribution, employment, nutrition, water, energy, soil conservation and health). And a continental country and an open-minded and merry people, just waiting for information, coordination, support and leadership.

But I don't know if the project will succeed because I am not there to collaborate, to keep exchanging ideas with all of you through Internet. And I am afraid that the people who will be invited by World Bank to give consultancy are not too concerned about this strategical planning, internet collaboration etc. So and again an important project will be lost, together with money and time. My suggestion is: do you know anybody in the World Bank who could help us to avoid that this important amount of money and opportunity could be lost?

If not in the World Bank, maybe in another organization that could interact and bring strategical ideas to make the Agrarian Reform in Brazil becomes a environmentally and socially sustainable success?? Please, think carefully about this suggestion... Thank you, Joaquim __________________________________________________ Partners of the Americas Brasilia / Washington DC Committee Communication * Culture * Community http://www.partners-bsbdc.org * http://www.partners-bsbdc.org/joaquim.htm __________________________________________________

Dear Mr. Moura

I received your EM on the above dated February 26 from a colleague. If you have any specific and concrete concerns or views on the World Bank's role with respect to the Brazil Land reform program, I'd be very interested to hear them. I am participating in the team preparing the project to which

you refer.

Best wishes,"Joachim F. G. Von Amsberg" <mailto:Jvonamsberg@worldbank.org> __________________________________________________
