THE LEAST OF THESE Program Highlights HCJB--The Voice of the Andes March 16, 1998Join us this week as host Ken MacHarg tours the shanty town of Duran near Guayaquil, Ecuador where El Nino is damaging homes, spreading disease and threatens the meagre income of it's residents. Guiding the tour is Victor Mariduena, President and Executive Director of Children International in Ecuador who is leading efforts to improve the way of life and assure that children don't get trapped in the cycle of poverty. You will hear about potable drinking water placed in contaminated storage barrels, efforts to combat the effects of El Nino, how children's healthy teeth are a reflection of the help they receive and whether or not such efforts really make a difference. The Least of These is a weekly radio program produced by HCJB, The Voice of the Andes in Quito, Ecuador, South America. The title of the program comes from the biblical reference in Matthew 25:40 where Jesus Christ said, "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to me. Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
