Concerning Nora von Gerichten's question about ecotourism in Central or South America:Hello Nora,
I'm working currently for the MST - Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem-Terra (Landless Rural Workers Movement of Brasil), the largest social movement of South America. There are some projects of ecotourism in the assentamentos of the MST, but as far as I know, they are much in need of skilled persons to develop these projects further. If this would interest your friend, she's welcome to contact me.
Abraços,
Pascal
PS: Trying to relief Nicole (mailto:AXEOXALA@AOL.COM - Re: Question about South America - Mon, 15 Mar 1999): what about touristic projects planned and owned by the indigenous themselves? - Would this be ok for you? Then we could probably even accept the presence of a yankee eco-tourism-professional, isn't it? :-)
