INDONESIA UPDATE 1995Friday and Saturday, 25 & 26 August 1995 Coombs Lecture Theatre Australian National University

The Indonesia Update has been conducted annually since 1983 and organised by the Indonesia Project and the Department of Political and Social Change at the Australian National University. This year it is a two-day event . The conference is free of charge. The Update will be preceded on Thursday 24 August by a Workshop on 'Domain and Desa in Eastern Indonesia, organised by the Department of Anthropology.
The Friday morning session will cover recent economic and political trends in Indonesia. Then the Friday afternoon and Saturday sessions will deal with economic and social development in Eastern Indonesia. The issue of rural improvement will be addressed through a panel discussion including NGO and government participants. An expert panel of Indonesian and Australian speakers, representing a range of perspectives, has been assembled to discuss these issues.
The Indonesia Updates are designed to provide comprehensive overviews of the situation in Indonesia, and to present wide ranging discussion on a theme of particular interest each year. They cater to an audience which includes government officials, academics, business and non-government people, students and others.
The Indonesia Update is structured to encourage discussion and questions from the audience.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Indonesia Update will be held in the Coombs Theatre, Fellows Road, The Australian National University, Canberra, on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 August 1995, 9.00am-5.15pm.
There is no registration fee. Morning and afternoon tea will be provided free of charge. Papers will not be distributed but session notes will be provided where possible, and may be collected from 8.30-9.00am on the day of the conference. Proceedings from the Conference will be published in a volume entitled Indonesia Assessment 1995.
ACCOMMODATION
Conference participants from outside Canberra are asked to arrange their own accommodation.
