Dear List members, At present I working for the Netherlands Library Development Project as the Project Manager. Thus I am able to join some of the Mailing List. My monthly e-mail bill is about US$ 150. For the more active lists like "Breast Cancer" the bill really goes up. Once the project is over I may not be able to afford this amount. The information one can get through these mailing list is phenomenal. I was thinking that the costs could be reduced if I can share the mailing list information with other users in Pakistan. Within the country the e-mail charges are much lower. I was wondering how individuals in other developing countries are overcoming this problem. How do they afford the charges of the e-mail service providers. Does anyone run a mailing list sharing service ie. further dessiminating mailing lists messages and charging for them. Does any Public library provide e-mail facility to the general public. At present we have only E-MAIL facility and no direct internet access. I was thinking of a focal point (Government funded in some institution) for all mailing lists which can be accessed by the general public. What do you think of this idea. I look forward to your suggestions (or information on this topic) in this regards.regards
