IMPORTANT: Gender and IT Discussion Happening Now!

<<< Please share this information widely! >>>

The Association for Progressive Communications (APC) has just launched an important discussion on Gender and Information Technology (IT) to coincide with preparations for the Global Knowledge '97 conference taking place in Toronto, Canada at the end of June.

As a woman electronic communicator, your input is vital! (We also want to hear from everyone concerned with gender and IT issues, female or male...)

The purpose of this facilitated discussion is to ensure that Gender and IT issues are considered and addressed leading up to and after the face-to-face event. Our goal is to develop a Gender and IT platform to bring our collective voices to the GK97 conference, and to have an enduring momentum after the event is over. Key issues we'll be addressing are:

- Gender Considerations in IT Programme and Policy Development - Training Women Technicians - Training & Support - Building Communication Bridges - Developing and Supporting Regional and National Networking Support - Sharing Successes and Lessons - Privacy and Security - Economic Considerations - Making IT a Women's Priority - Women-Friendly Online Culture - Relevant Content - Useful Tools

Several women participating in gk97-gender, as well as several APC representatives, will be attending the conference and will ensure the voices of those who can't attend will be heard in the plenaries, at the panels and at the booths. So we need to make sure they have something to say! :-)

We welcome and encourage everyone here to participate in the gk97-gender list. Look forward to seeing you there!

::: Who's Behind This? Web Networks and the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) have received funding from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to use our established global network of discussion areas and online community to facilitate global consultation on issues of importance to the World Bank GK97 meeting -- gk97-gender is the first of these. Facilitators of the APC lists will be monitoring our own lists as well as discussions happening in this space and elsewhere to ensure highlights of relevant information and summaries are shared, and to avoid duplication of information.
