Much (I won't vouch for all) of what you have mentioned is taught in U.S. schools and may only be "hinted" at, leaving you to figure it out for yourself. I don't think that this type of information is gotten into until the higher levels of college classes, unfortunately. At least, that is how it was for me (now a senior, grad school in the fall). And, you have to take the right courses to get into this kind of stuff, so that means that many students leave college with no idea.
How can we change, if we don't know?
