THE LEAST OF THESE Program Highlights HCJB--The Voice of the Andes May 16 and 18, 1998One may not naturally think of music as a means of working with the poor. But, around the world there are a number of examples of how the "universal language" can provide support in a variety of ways. On this week's The Least of These, Shelly Sutton will talk with Ken Clarkston, chaplain and Executive Director of the gospel mission in Dayton, Ohio about how he mixes a Steel Drum band with the homeless. She will also talk with Max Winn in London, England who is helping musicians in India form a symphony orchestra. Jim Wilbar will be along with a report on "Rock and Wrap it Up," an effort to take surplus food from pre-concert dinners and give it to the poor. Also on this week's program, Curt Cole has a report on how one community in Haiti has taken the matter of potable drinking water into their own hands. The Least of These is a weekly radio program produced by HCJB, The Voice of the Andes in Quito, Ecuador, South America. The title of the program comes from the biblical reference in Matthew 25:40 where Jesus Christ said, "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to me. Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
