I am a graduate student in sociology/rural sociology and am in the process of writing a paper about successful organic (bio-intensive, sustainable, regenerative, etc.) agriculture projects in Kenya. I also want to get a feel for how strong NGO activities are in this area. I know a little about the Kenya Institute of Organic Gardening (KIOF), the Foundation for Sustainable Development in Africa (FSDA), and Manor House Agricultural Center (MHAC)...and would welcome more info about any of these groups. In addition, what other Kenyan NGOs/training centers focus on organic agriculture?I am also interested in the Kenyan gov't approach to agriculture--what type of farming/gardening does the Ministry of Agriculture (and other government extensionists) promote? Is there encouragement (at the national, governmental, level) for alternatives to export-oriented, mechanized, "Western", capital-intensive, Green Revolution, (etc. etc.) agriculture??
I would appreciate information about first-hand experiences, or simply suggestions on good books/articles to read about this subject.
(Responses can be sent directly to me at: mailto:jgoldber@ssc.wisc.edu)
Thanks in advance!!
