I am especially interested in lowcost/selfhelp construction methods, and
recently came across an article describing the American Plywood Association's
"Rigid Frame" construction method.(BackHome Magazine, Spring 1994). It looks
like a fast, fairly inexpensive way to construct basic shelter. However,
because of the peculiar geometry of the plywood gussets, it presents some
difficulties when framing-in windows, adding insulation, etc. Has anyone come
across any more RECENT research on this technique, perhaps someone has refined
the design so it doesn't look so odd and funky? (Is anyone familiar with the
Australian's research on "portal frames"?.......this system looks a bit like the
plywood rigid frame idea.) The A.P.A., by the way, is located at PO Box 11700,
Tacoma, WA 98411-0700 USA.
