As a journalism prof at The American University in Cairo, I am pulling
together a cross-media reporting/writing course tentatively entitled
"Women as Audience:Reporting For and About Women." It will also be cross
listed in our new gender studies program and in our proposed African
studies minor. Drawing upon my experience as director of the Penney-Missouri
Journalilsm Program at Missouri (which includes awards for best lifestyle
reporting), I have some ideas about how to report on such specialties as
food/nutrition, consumer news, health/fitness etc. but the emphasis of
the course will be on women in developing countries. I have visited some
web sites for inspiration in women's studies syllabi, but would welcome
any leads towards bibliographies, suggested textbooks, successful case
studies in which print or electronic journalism has been used effectively
in development projects involving women/family.
