The Strcutures of Economic Violence in Nicaragua January 8 - 23, 1998Join Witness for Peace on a intensive 16 day study of economic institutions, human needs, and moral vales. The focus is on the human face of economics. The delegation begins with a three day Washington, DC study seminar on the global economic system. The group will be briefed by the senior staff of key NGOs, corporate lobbies and hands-on managers of Nicaragua at the World Bank, Inter American Development Bank and the State Department/USAID.
>From January 11-22, delegates travel to Nicaragua to hear the testimonies
of Nicaraguan workers, farmers, maquila managers, human rights activists and women and environmental leaders talk about how Globalization and "Free Trade" have affected them.Then you will return to Washington to reflect on the structures of impoversighment and the interests that control them. The delgates will strategize with national political an dmoral thinkers on the global movement for alternatives to these structures and share your critiques with the State Department, World Bank, and US Congress.
