ORT International is an NGO currently working in 15 countries world-wide
primarily in the areas of health, democracy/governance and training.  It is
expanding its focus within the context of its Mother Child care program to
include microenterprise/income-generating activities and increasing
employment opportunities and sustainability of the community-based
organization by developing production units.

ORT is recruiting for five new positions for the following countries: Albania, Senegal, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Guatemala. The position is for 3 years and will be located in the respective countries. The anticipate starting date is April, 1998.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Working with mixed populations (women with limited literacy, numeracy and job skills, displaced populations, populations with poor job skills or work habits, rural populations, populations with limited entrepreneurial development);

2) Knowledge and understanding in establishing ‘resource linkages' with other communities, NGOs, public sector. Also, establishing linkages for the purposes of buying/selling (establishing marketing linkages), sourcing raw materials between rural/urban, larger/smaller businesses, etc.

3) Knowledge and understanding in developing training programs for: microenterprise production skills and marketing, microenterprise business operational skills (only as appropriate) for people with limited levels of education, job skill development, CBO (and public sector staff) in strategic planning, management and operational skills

4) Knowledge of developing country baseline studies, needs assessments, developing and implementing monitoring and evaluation systems.

EXPERIENCE: 5+ years experience in a developing country context implementing, for example, the following projects/programs: an integrated development project w/ productive components; NGO/CBO - institutional development, focusing on sustainability of the organization; developing working relationships with ‘resource organizations' for the purposes of collaboration; microenterprise/business development programs, with training components; employment creation schemes, market development and distribution programs.

Experience in working with a program where community members are trained during the life of the project to take over mgmt of the program highly desirable.

EDUCATION: Master's degree, or bachelor's degree, in marketing, business management, economics, public admin, community economic development or some combination of academic work relative to the position.

LANGUAGE: French, Spanish or English depending on country placement.

SALARY: Salary commensurate with experience.
