Dear Members:I am writing inform you about a new on-line magazine, AgBioForum, which publishes articles on the economics and management of agricultural biotechnology. AgBioForum is edited and published out of the University of Missouri-Columbia, and is funded by the Illinois-Missouri Biotechnology Alliance (IMBA). Contributors are academics, private and public sector analysts, and decision makers. AgBioForum can be found at http://www.agbioforum.missouri.edu and is available free-of-charge. The magazine is intended for a wide audience including students, media, academia, industry, government, and business.
The first issue of AgBioForum focuses on the public acceptance of agricultural biotechnology, a topic that produced front-page material long before any commercial product was in sight. There have been several concerns about agricultural biotechnology including perceived environmental and food safety risks, and the potential for ethical and religious conflicts. The summer 1998 issue of AgBioForum provides viewpoints of academic and industry experts from the United States, Europe, and Canada.
The second issue of AgBioForum, due out December 31st, focuses on "Industry Consolidation in Agro-biotechnology and Related Industries". Contributed papers focus on the impacts of industry consolidation on farmers; the impacts on the various upstream related industries - chemicals, and seeds; and impacts on the processing and food industries. Additional papers address the impact of intellectual property rights on industry consolidation; and the valuation and expected performance of seed and biotechnology company acquisitions.
I hope that you will find this a useful resource.
