The news in recent weeks proves that what happens in Russia
has inescapable impacts on us, worldwide. These are
comprehensive--economic, political, social, medical, ecological--
so it behooves us all to learn what is going on there.

I plan to again organize short (3 or 4 weeks) travel courses in 1999. They would provide the chance to explore, on site and in depth, Russia's attempts to solve the latest crisis of its historic transition and may thus interest subscribers to this list.

The host higher education institution in Moscow has agreed to receive these groups, as it has since 1980, and to hold the costs of accommodations and program to the same low level as the past five years--despite the inflationary pressures in Russia.

The courses would as always be open to interested adults from any country, whether or not in academia, though there is an option to earn transferable American university credits from Eastern Michigan University for the course proposed to begin in May.

The first priority is a course from about May 8-June 7.

A second course, convenient for many people in education, could be arranged from June 19 or 26 and for 3 or 4 weeks. *This one can only be organized if I have sufficient early feedback expressing interest and recommending the suitable departure date and length.*

To indicate interest or ask questions, please respond directly (*NOT* by reply to this discussion list) so that I can keep you informed. Note that considerable information is on the web site whose address is below
