Hi DEVEL-L'ers!

For my Master's thesis, I'm designing a micro-hydropower demonstration = system for an indigenous community in Borneo. The community has = requested technical assistance in exploring micro-hydro as an = alternative to the diesel generators presently being used to provide = electricity to their longhouses. They've asked me to conduct a = technical training course at their village and then help them get = materials and install the demo system.

Can anybody out there give me input on either of the following?: 1. TECHNICAL DESIGN. Appropriate designs for micro-hydro systems for = very small villages in developing countries (emphasizing simplicity, = very low costs, and local materials) 2. TRAINING COURSE DEVELOPMENT. What kind of approaches might I take = as a "Western engineer" in transferring micro-hydro = design/installation/maintenance knowledge to indigenous people, such = that they can truly own and evaluate that knowledge to use (or not use) = in their communities? =20 Thank you all for your consideration.

Hi DEVEL-L'ers!

For my Master's thesis, I'm designing a = micro-hydropower=20 demonstration system for an indigenous community in Borneo.  The = community=20 has requested technical assistance in exploring micro-hydro as an = alternative to=20 the diesel generators presently being used to provide electricity to = their=20 longhouses.  They've asked me to conduct a technical training = course at=20 their village and then help them get materials and install the demo=20 system.

Can anybody out there give me input on either of the = following?:
1.    TECHNICAL = DESIGN.  Appropriate designs for micro-hydro systems for very small = villages in developing countries (emphasizing simplicity, very low = costs, and=20 local materials)
2.    TRAINING = COURSE=20 DEVELOPMENT.  What kind of approaches might I take as a = "Western=20 engineer" in transferring micro-hydro = design/installation/maintenance=20 knowledge to indigenous people, such that they can truly own and = evaluate that=20 knowledge to use (or not use) in their communities?

Thank you all for your = consideration.
