I don't have any suggestions re: theoretical texts, but I wonder if you've looked into the use of pagers/beepers as a communications tool for groups and individuals who are trying to avoid CCP supervision.I remember reading an article (either NYT or LA Times, I think) about 2-3 years ago about the increased use of pagers in Beijing, especially among activists and black marketeers. Instead of giving a phone number as a call back, people would often transmit codes that would correspond to a meeting place, etc. If I remember correctly, there were even pamphlets full of common code designations for various spots around the city -- Tiananmen, Wangfujing, etc., etc.
For information in general, you may also want to contact the people at China News Daily (mailto:@cnd.org, I think), or even look through their archives, which I believe are available via gopher (try gopher.cnd.org , or something like that).
Good luck --
