Announcement of UNU/ZERI Electronic SeminarTitle: Zero Emissions: The New Industrial Clusters Date: 9-22th Nov 1995 By: Gunter Pauli, UN University, Tokyo =================================================
ABSTRACT
Zero Emissions Research Initiative (ZERI) believes that the next green revolution will not come from the increased yields per acre, but from the substantial use and improvement of output, i.e. effective use of raw materials and reuse of its wastes. The ZERI methodology offers a systematic way to recover all wastes in an economic manner, actually mimicking nature where the concept of waste does not exist. This leads to the creation of new industries and as such offers a response to the need for the development through job creation which leads to poverty alleviation based on the principles of sustainability. UNU/ZERI projects are being implemented for the utilization and recycling of agro-industrial solid and liquid wastes from beer, sisal, cane sugar industries, and for biomass refinery which separates and recycles plant biomass wastes (e.g. green biomasss, baggasse, sisal industrial wastes) and their products (used newsprints) for its fiber, protein and chemicals.
