Opportunity to Host a Teacher from the NIS
*****************************************************************
The American Council of Teachers of Russian/American Council for
Collaboration in Education and Language Study (ACCTR/ACCELS) and
the United States Information Agency (USIA) are pleased to an-
nounce a program to support civics education in the Newly-Inde-
pendent States (NIS).

U.S. secondary schools are invited to apply to host English- speaking NIS teachers selected through a merit-based competition. Participants will be qualified teachers of history or social studies and are expected to teach up to three classes in the U.S. school during the 1996-97 academic year, in addition to develop- ing a civics education project to be implemented in their home school.

USIA funding provides teachers from Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakstan, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine with a stipend, which includes housing allowance, all travel costs, and orientation programs. U.S. institutions must provide a faculty advisor and an opportunity to participate in a secondary school civics educa- tion program.

The application deadline for this program is December 15, 1995.
