   Teaching Opportunity in the Newly-Independent States (NIS)
            American Council of Teachers of Russian/
American Council for Collaboration in Education and Language Study

The  American Council of Teachers of Russian/American  Council  for
Collaboration  in Education and Language Study  (ACTR/ACCELS)  wel-
comes  applications from secondary school teachers of  civics,  in-
cluding  government,  political science, social  studies,  history,
and/or  American  studies to participate in an  academic  year-long
program teaching at a secondary school or pedagogical institute  in
one of the countries of the New Independent States (NIS).

Participants will serve as visiting faculty to a school in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakstan, Moldova, Russia or Ukraine during the 1996-97 school year in the area of civics education. In addition to teaching in the subjects listed above, participants may be asked to teach U.S. language, culture, and/or literature.

This program is sponsored by the United States Information Agency, administered on its behalf by ACTR/ACCELS, and funded under the Freedom Support Act. The program covers the cost of domestic airfare to Washington, DC, international airfare from Washington, DC, orientation, a monthly maintenance stipend which includes a housing allowance, and emergency medical insurance during the exchange. Applicants must be U.S. citizens to be eligible.

The application deadline for this program is December 15, 1995.
