The Least of These Program Highlights HCJB--The Voice of the Andes October 13, 1997We have numerous features scheduled on this week's program:
1. Street children in Sri Lanka have been the object of abuse, and they are protesting. Allen Graham reports 2. More than one billion people in developing countries live in absolute poverty. Recently, U. N. officials met to discuss poverty eradication. Dawn Johnston-Pitt of United Nations Radio reports. 3. The people of Russia are facing a cruel winter. Curt Cole reports. 4. Famine is hitting a swathe of land from Sudan to Rwanda, forcing millions to depend on food handouts. We'll have the story. 5. David Larson, Assistant Coordinator of Microenterprise Development for World Relief talks about relieving poverty through small grants and loans. 6. In New Guinea haze from fires has hampered efforts to send relief to drought stricken areas. Jim Wilbar reports. 7. Finally, Paul Bell gives us an overview of the people and conditions of New Guinea. The Least of These is a weekly radio program produced by HCJB, The Voice of the Andes in Quito, Ecuador, South America. The title of the program comes from the biblical reference in Matthew 25:40 where Jesus Christ said, "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to me. Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
