Actually, Dr. Lisses's suggestion is better than playing with forwarding your mail to web-based email programs. Telecom Plus in Port Louis (a subsidiary of France Telecom and Mauritius Telecom) would be happy to sell you a PPP account while you are in MU.

Or if you like to support home-grown, entreprenurial efforts, there are other solutions.
