Subject: GII Information

My name is Randi Berger and I am a research assistant at the Information Infrastructure Project at Harvard University in the United States. One of our cuurent projects deals with the many issues surrounding the development of a global information infrastructure. We are interested in obtaining information on national and international initiatives regarding the development of such an infrastructure. Our research will culminate in a series of conferences over the next two years. Two to be held in January of 1996 are: "National and International Initiatives for Information Infrastructure" and "Information, National Policies and International Infrastructure". We are also planning a conference on "Information Infrastructure and Development", and finally, a conference on "International Institutions and Institutional Issues".

Issues we are particularly interested in include, the interaction of national information policies with the development and use of international information infrastructure, which may include related topics such as intellectual property, privacy, security and export control, technology transfer and diffusion of information, interoperability and standards as well as many others. We are also interested in broad-based national initiatives designed to accelerate private investment to serve a wide range of public objectives.

I came across your name while researching these topics. I am interested in finding out the type of research that you do and whether it relates to our project. If you are aware of anyone else that might be a useful resource for my work, I would appreciate it if you could give me the information that I'll need to get in touch with them. As you can probably see, these topics are very broad and encompass many fields of study. I would appreciate any direction you might be able to give me towards this endeavor. Additionally, if you might be interested in attending any of these conferences, please let me know.

A call for papers for each of the first two conferences is posted at the Information Infrastructure Project's home page: http://ksgwww.harvard.edu/iip/

If you have any questions or information, I can be reached at (617)496-5584 or via email at mailto:randi23@acs.bu.edu. I thank you in advance for your help in he success of this project.

Thank you.
