Dear Friends,About my concerns on sex work and development, I have received back some messages disagreeing (four - all from women) and two agreeing (one from a man and one from a woman) with my emailing to the Beijing list, one week ago.
First, I never suggested that prostitution should not be decriminalized. For sure I am convinced that adults men and women have their own right to sell themselves, if they want. My concerning were beyond that (I am so used with open prostitution in Brazil and in the US and Europe, that I taught it was open and free everywhere, but now I can see that - obviously - this is not true anywhere). Another point: no, no, I don't agree with the many other parasite professionals that infest our societies either, ok? Is that clear? Oh, thanks.
Due to my working, my concerns tend to be socially and morally objective, directly related to cultural development and community issues. For instance: should the Government tax the whores? Or should it fund or support prostitution training programs?
Secondly: just two of those disagreeing messages had minimal insightful deepness and/or intellectual consistence. (I could send them to you, the sender names omitted, of course). But let me show you why they didn't touch the main points:
a. if sex work is a work as legitimate as any other LEGITIMATE (I am not talking about other useless or ALIENATED or PARASITE or socio-environmentally UNSOUND or UNFAIR), why should not we create schools on prostitution for teenagers? Should I consider a cooperative of prostitutes as socially sound as a cooperative of food, cloths or compost producers?
b. last point, to avoid be too long for this medium. None of those disagreeing woman tried to explain my main question: how could the "whores" proclaim themselves as the only truly liberated women if they must open their intimacy, expose their bodies and simulate very personal sentiments to men when those - and here I agree with all of you - are mostly quite idiots? If a woman says: I already have made love with many, many men... doesn't it mean she is such an idiot as most of them?
Thank you for your attention, Joaquim. ______________________________________________________________ Joaquim Moura (all the controversial opinions are just personal) Youth & Citizenship Development Commission Partners of the Americas - Brasilia / Washington DC Committee SHCGN 713 - Bloco I - Apt. 202 - 70760-739 - Brazil Phone (55 61): 414-1904 (w); 273-5613 (h); 414-1898 (fax)
