Does anyone know about this seminar? I need to contact them ASAP, as I intend to attend it and I must provide everything from far way, from Brazil. And if you leave in D.C. area, please try to contact me from October 28 to November 22, in order to plan if we could develop some experiments together, here in Brazil. Remember, Brazil is the largest open-air socio-racial-environmental laboratory in the world. Every body would gather a lot of experience by working with us (or at least monitoring what we are doing and changing ideas e documents). ____________________________________________________________________To: mailto:beijing-conf@tristram.edc.org From: Debra Guzman * mailto:DEBRA@oln.comlink.apc.org Subject: WCW: NGOs announce microcredit plan Date: Thu, 14 Sep 1995 08:34:00 +0100
Inspired by the success of small loans to Bangladeshi women by Grameen Bank, NGOs at the Beijing Women's Conference have announced an International Micro Credit Summit scheduled for November 20-22 in Washington, DC. The Summit will be chaired by Grameen's founder, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, and US First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. "If we are looking for one single action which will enable the poor to overcome their poverty, I would focus on credit," Yunus said. Benefits from Grameen's small loans include increased school enrollment, reduced fertility rates, improved nutrition and basic health, safe sanitation and increased use of clean water.
