Dick,
1. Many large libraries maintain on-line public catalogs. Some persons compile lists of these libraries and how to access their catalogs. To obtain a useful index of lists of resources, anonymous ftp to niord.shsu.edu and download 3 files called /maasinfo.dir/maasinfo.topindex_* . You can then access the sources cited in those files, after doing a string search on "librar".
You can also download 5 files by anonymous ftp to ftp.utdallas.edu /pub/staff/billy/libguide. The files include 4 for different continents and one for general info. The files include IDs and passwords for each of hundreds of libraries.
2. The USDA (US Department of Agriculture) Library is called the National Agricultural Library, located in Beltsville, Maryland. The best access is provided through http://www.nal.usda.gov . Once you get to the home page, select Integrated System for Information Services (ISIS) for further instructions. The working hours are 0600 to 2100 Eastern Daylight Time; add 4 hours for UT. Monday through Saturday only.
Good luck,
