hi
was reminded of a week-long discussion held last year with a very
intelligent american social worker who is living on a kibbutz in israel,
probably forever. the kibbutz was wondering what services they could
provide to the "outside world" meaning any place that is a mile away from
their kibbutz.
since there was already a trained social worker and trained
psychologist, as well as 2-3 trained computer geeks living on the kibbutz
[don't ask why - they have their own reasons], i suggested an email
[internet] service of social work and psychotherapy to people living in
isolated places such as a kibbutz. even in a small country such as israel,
there are plenty of isolated places. netpsy is a forum dedicated to such work.
the lady from the kibbutz countered with her idea: how to market
their dates [the kind that grow on trees] better. this despite the known
fact that the cost of isreali dates is due to a fair labor payout, somewhat
higher than the market price of such dates, most of which come from
adjoining arab countries where the cost of labor is much lower.
the argument ended in a stalemate. i'm still puzzled.
