DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENTAfrican Wildlife Foundation seeks an accomplished Director of Development to work directly under its CEO. Based in Washington, D.C., AWF raises 5-6 million annually to maintain wildlife and habitats through conservation, rural development, and species/ecosystem protection in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and other African countries.
Qualified candidates should possess enthusiasm and exceptional energy; must project, orally and in writing, the "magic of Africa" to donors - stressing the human implications of wildlife conservation in partnership with Africans. International experience desirable (preferably African) and an ability to lead four development professionals to work in major gifts, foundation grants, and direct response marketing.
Successful candidate will inspire a collaborative office environment and work closely with CEO; Board; major individual contributors; vendors; and consultants.
Major gift experience essential. Familiarity with foundation funding and working knowledge of direct mail desirable.
Competitive salary and attractive fringes. One-fourth travel, some of it to Africa.
