where should this discussion take place?

this is an interesting and critical response, particularly on this listserv. several times in the past there have been attempts to carry on an exchange at a meta level which has involved two and often more persons engaged in intellectual exchanges rather than applications orientations. the response here has been similar to that raised by Michael.

Of course, "useful information" takes place within a metaphysical construct. And the issue of carrying capacity is one which is an excellent example since many credible scholars sit on both sides of the fence.

Interestingly enough, even "greens" are not in congruence and yet multimillions of monies are being bet on these models from the US government to the World Bank.

Where should this debate take place?

Those in line positions have to ride into Tennyson's Valley of Death and have no say- or do they; and have they just made the choice, having taken the equivalent of the king's shilling and being now addicted to a continuance of that fiscal flow. So the discussion, as Michael suggest, is not needed because there is a consensus on this list either with regards to the correct path, or the least damaging path; or there is a consensus that those on this list do not have the power to effect any policy change or contribute in a manner which might change that policy.

Or perhaps there is a consensus that the parties carrying on the exchange are not of sufficient stature to be credible enoght to carry any weight. In any of these cases, Michael is right. OK boys grab a cyber beer and take your discussions elsewhere.
